CFL guide: Canadian football, explained briefly

The CFL is Canada's professional football league, playing a fast, wide field version of the game. This hub explains how it works and where it is shown. One honest note first: our data feed returned no CFL fixtures for the current week, so this page lists no games rather than inventing any.

How the CFL game differs

Canadian football uses a bigger field, twelve players a side and three downs instead of four, which pushes teams to pass more and makes games open and high scoring. The season runs through the Canadian summer and autumn, ending with the Grey Cup, one of the oldest trophies in North American sport.

The league is small, nine teams, and most British and American fans meet it through the Grey Cup or through players moving between the CFL and the NFL.

Where the CFL is shown

In Canada the CFL sits with TSN and RDS. In the US, selected games and the play-offs have aired on US sports networks and the league's own streaming options, and in the UK coverage is limited to streaming services that carry Canadian sport. Because carriage changes season by season, the league's official site is the reliable place to confirm current options.

When our feed carries CFL fixtures again, they will appear in the agenda on the homepage and on this page automatically, with London and Eastern start times like every other sport here.
